We are doing a home improvement project and our contractor gave us an estimate of
$33, 000. We are already $6,500 over that estimate and we still have a long way to go before it is finished. Our contract says we are billed on time and materials. Is there any law that prevents a contractor from going 50% over budget (that is probably where we will end up) and just saying “oh well, that is our material and labor costs”?

What is the distance from Secaucus or Edgewater, NJ to either Penn Station in NYC or Newark, NJ (Amtrak station, 1 Raymond Plaza West, Market Street)? Which one is closer to the cities in NJ from either Amtrak station? I am thinking about returning to NYC (was there for the first time in December) for 3 days and will be getting in close to midnight. Anything going on the last week of March 2008 or April 2008 in NYC other than the normal things one might do when visiting the city? I am planning on going to the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, etc. this time too. How much time should I allow for these two things? I’m not huge on history, but I do want to see them. I also plan to shop more this time too (even if it’s just window shopping).

I am considering purchasing an older mobile home that needs a bit of work. The price to own is excellent, and at first glance of mobile home supplies it looks very affordable to fix up like buy a new bathroom counter/sink, faucets, doors, widows, etc. Is home improvement as easy as I am assuming it is in a mobile home or are there a few “catches’?

If you drop a penny from the Empire State building and it hits someone, it will kill him/her. Rain falls from a much higher elevation, why doesn’t rain kill people? Please no facetious answers, I really want to know what the difference is. If you know the answer, please don’t make it too technical. Thank you.
