Velocity Question?

a marble is dropped from the 86th floor observation deck of the empire state building which is 1050 feet above the ground. how long does it take the marble to reach the ground(ignore wind resistance,etc)
acceleration due to gravity is -32ft/sec^2

  1. S = [1/2] gt^2
    t^2 = 2s/g= 2 x1050 / 32= 65.625
    t = 8.1 s

  2. Use: s=ut+(1/2)at^2
    Were:
    s=distance
    u=initial velocity (in this case 0)
    t=time
    a=acceleration (due to gravity)
    Rearrange to make “t” the subject of the equation
    t^2=s / (1/2)a
    t=root(s / (1/2)a)
    convert to SI units
    then plug in the numbers
