Empire State Building — Green And Red And White And Blue?

I’d like to know other people’s opinion on the Empire State building being lit with both red and green AND blue and white lights. I’d especially like to know Jew’s opinions. Thanks.

  1. I’m Jewish, and truthfully I hadn’t noticed this year.
I do know that there are lots of people who have been campaigning for the ESB to be lit up blue and white on Chanukah. I guess I’m happy that they’ve tried to do something about Chanukah (so precious little IS done at this time of year, considering the size of the Jewish population around here.) I suppose the ESB concerns me less, and having my kids watch all their favorite programs at this time of year, and every single one is about Christmas!!! This bothers me a whole lot more!

  2. Why would you especially like to know Jews’ opinions?
I’m a Christian with a Jewish mother. The way I figure it is that, look, there is ONE Empire State Building and Christmas and Hanukkah fall at the same time. What else are they supposed to do? All those colors are a little busy, and with the red, white and green, it looks a little like it’s for some obscure Italian holiday where they celebrate it with the color blue, but I’m disinclined to dwell.
    UPDATE:
When I was out Christmas shopping on the first day of Hanukkah, I saw the Empire State Building lit up blue and white. JUST blue and white. I could swear I remembered that always being the case.

  3. I’m Jewish and I don’t have a problem with the ESB being lit up in two completely different holiday colors. Maybe they could try to light up the Chrysler Building…but still, it’s a lot more, well, meaningful to see Hanukkah colors on the ESB, of all the buildings.
