Will My Home Insurance Policy Cover Damage To Neighbour’s Window, Caused By A Rock Flicked From My Lawn Mower?
I was mowing the lawn on my property and a rock flicked up and hit my neighbour’s window, causing his window to break. Is this covered by my home insurance, i do not think my neighbour has a home insurance policy.
I expect it would covered under the liability coverage of your homeowners insurance.
Good insurance question. I think you could make an argument either way. However if it were covered, it would normally be covered under your liability coverage. And in order to prove liability, the other person needs to be able to prove negligence. Some questions I might ask is:
How big was the rock?
Could you see the rock prior to running over it?
Do you have an idea of how the rock got there?
How far is it from your yard to the neighbors yard?
Depending on your answers to those questions would determine whether you are liable for the damage. Either way, I would offer to pay for your neighbors window. In the event that your insurance company pays, you risk your premiums increasing when your policy renews (and sometimes the increases can be more than the damage itself). You will also have a liability claim show up on your claims history (CLUE) report. That can look bad if you decide to change insurance companies in the future.
possess as much information as you could maybe is one of the options, however it is quite time consuming, here http://www.insuranceidea.info/free-insurance.htm is the resource i have ever had good experience.
Pay it out of pocket. No sense in going to the insurance for this. You may have to satisfy your deductible first anyhow.
best to pay out of pocket than use your insurance. the $100 you will pay will be much less than the added premiums you will end up paying for the insurance coverge
