Online forums can be a great source of business for your home-based business.

Here are some tips on how to market your product or service using forums.

Choose the right forum.

Do a search for forums in your market niche and research them.

Find out how many people actively participate in the online discussions there, and their level of activity.

Ideally, you want to find a forum, or forums, that are directly related to what you are marketing.

The forum should also have a lot of members who participate regularly, even daily, in discussions.

Join the conversation.

Do not jump into a forum and immediately start posting about your great product or service.

This is the wrong way to proceed.

Take your time. I introduce yourself. Join in conversations, ask questions, and make comments.

What you are trying to do here is to get known. Remember, in marketing, if people know you, trust you, and like you, they will buy from you.

Identify a current hot topic.

So you have become known in the forum and have been participating in discussions.

Then you should have a good idea what the current hot topics are:

• what individuals are asking questions about
• what they need help with
• what they finding frustrating
• what is new and exciting

Write a post about the hot topic.

Start a new thread and write a post a few paragraphs in length that offers solutions, or provides new information, with regards to a hot topic of discussion.

Offer more (and free) information in your signature.

Your signature in forums is similar to a resource box in article marketing.

It is your opportunity to market yourself and your product or service.

Important: remember that your signature is about what you are going to do for your reader. You are going to help them solve their problem, or get new and exciting information on something in the market niche.

Be creative.

With many forums, your signature can include eye-catching graphics, or you can play with the font sizes and colors to come up with a unique signature that will get noticed.

Send people to a squeeze page.

Offer free information in your signature. Then link, using anchor text for your keywords, to a short and sweet squeeze page that requires visitors to opt-in to receive your free content.

In this way you can build a list, a most valuable asset in internet marketing and making money online.
